We’ll be moving to Texas.

Hello all.

I don’t think I’ve mentioned it in my previous posts, but the purpose of this trip to the mid-west was for more than simply visiting family. We were on a house hunting trip and I think we’ve found something. Yeah!! The house is near Dallas in the small community of Balch Springs. The house is relatively small and over 30 years old, but super cute and in perfect condition (from what I can see and know anyway) and . . . drumroll . . . it’s only $84K. Coming from California that seems almost like pocket change, of course. And this is why we’re moving back to this area of the country. I can’t wait to close and get moved. My fingers are crossed that all goes well. Financing should be no problem as we’ve got excellent credit. We’ve got ten days to get the house inspected and hopefully that will show no problems. (Fingers are crossed for luck.)

So, how will homeschooling in Texas differ from California? I’ve done a bit of research. I know that it is very easy to homeschool in Texas. In fact, it is one of the few “no notification necessary” states in America. I will have to check, but I don’t believe there is the charter option here. We have never homeschooled through a charter, but I considered it. I considered it only because my husband is completely against homeschooling and I thought it might be a good middle ground alternative. So far, however, he’s leaving me alone with this decision and allowing me to go with my choice. But I did still hold the charter school idea out as an option if things ever came down to it.

Now, I’ve got so much to do in the next few weeks. The hubby has returned to California and to work. The kids and I will stay here a bit longer and take care of things which need done for purchasing the house. As soon as we can we headed back to California to box and pack and get things ready there. Then, oh my, back this way hauling a U-Haul trailer behind us.  When we’re done zigzagging across the country I plan to park myself here in Dallas and never move again. :-)

Cheers,

Pat
