Exploring Uttar Pradesh.

The past three days were spent touring through parts of Uttar Pradesh. Sandhya’s brother, Sanjay, arrived Monday morning with a car. We all returned with him to Bulandshare, to their ancestral home.

Joint homes are still the norm in most of India. Sanjay, his wife and children live with his widowed mother as well as his elderly grandmother. We stayed two nights in their home.

Much of Uttar Pradesh is very rural. We visited Sanjay’s in-laws who live in an even smaller village where agriculture is still the backbone of the community.

The next day we planned to do more sight seeing in the area, especially wanting to see Mathura, the birthplace of Krishna. However, we woke to very heavy fog and decided it wasn’t safe to be on the roads so our plans were cancelled and we stuck around Bullandshare for the day.

Before returning to Delhi we visited a Hanuman temple and a park along the Ganga River which becomes a pilgrimage site during certain times of the year. The Ganga River is considered to by holy by the Hindus.
