Digging for crystals at Salt Plains Resevoir, Jet, Oklahoma.

Digging for selenite crystals at the Great Salt Plains Resevoir near Jet, Oklahoma is a fun activity and it is completely free. The crystals lie just below the surface and are super easy to find. Take along jugs of water for rinsing, buckets and shovels. And SUNSCREEN. Don’t forget the sunscreen. The sand is white and you will burn super quick.

After you’ve worked up an appetite digging all day head west toward Helena for a mouth-watering meal at the only café in town. (And the only real food for many miles.) I don’t even know if the place has a name, but it’s along the west side of main street and is run by members of the Mennonite community. This is a small town of only a little over 400 people so, trust me, these are the only directions you will need to find this place. Prices are good and the food is deliciously good home-style cooking. The crowd which gathers is good testimony to that.
