Local park group meeting found.
Wednesday, August 9th, 2006The kids and I have finally found where local homeschool meetings are taking place. We attended “park day” at a nearby park today.
Before we ever left California I had been online and looking for what is happening in this area so that we could get involved immediately. I found plenty of Yahoo Groups for families in this area, but couldn’t seem to find anything for face-to-face meetings. Finally, I just decided to . . . suck it up . . . be brave . . . and ASK.
I’ve got a bit of a shy side. My kids on the other hand . . . that is my poor little, unsocialized homeschooled children, dont’ know a stranger! While I sat today in the shade of gazebo with the other homeschool mother, making small talk and still feeling awkward my children ran off to play with the other children, never once hesitating or stopping to look back at Mom.
I enjoy quite a few different Yahoo groups for homeschooling as well as a few other interests, but I mostly lurk. Of course everyone was very nice and very helpful in replying to my question. In fact, there has been so much recommended for us to check out that I don’t know where to begin. Actually, I guess I do know where to begin and it was at the park today.
The kids had fun, although it was extremely hot and we weren’t really able to stay very long.
