Relaxed homeschooling.
Tuesday, July 25th, 2006I would not by any means consider our family to be an “unschooled” family, although as I read this blog back to myself, in my opinion, it has come to sound as if we are. Yes, we do search for each and every opportunity to throw in a bit of learning throughout our lives. That just makes good sense, and it is a lot of fun, but we also do fit in a bit of structured time.
In general, we have been typically more structured with our math program and our phonics and learning to read. We have curriculums for both of these areas and I try to schedule time for us all to set down at the table and get the necessary work done.
Recently I came across the term “relaxed homeschooling” and I finally felt like I had found a term and a style which truly describes US. Cool! I like it that I’ve finally found where we seem to fit.
Mary Hood is an author who is well-known in homeschool circles where “relaxed homeschooling” is practiced. She has several books which have been pubished. I have ordered two of these, but have not yet read them so I can’t personally comment on either, but each book has received very high reviews from others.
