Visiting Oklahoma

Thursday, April 13th, 2006

We’re here. We finally made it to Oklahoma. That last day of driving was horrid. I really should have stopped for the night, but we were already in Oklahoma and I just wanted to get here so I kept driving. We finally made it to the farm where my mom lives about 2:00a.m. (A little note on the side, Love’s quick-trip stores have the best deal on coffee. Buy one of their thermos jugs for $6.99 and refills are only .69! And sometimes not even that much. One store at which I stopped just said “Don’t worry about it.” and waved me on out the door.)

I should have got busy and done some school work with the kids today but I didn’t. Instead we just relaxed and visited with mom/grandma, played with her dogs, and unloaded the van, etc. Not that we didn’t learn. We watched Animal Planet on TV. There is always something educational on that channel. We read the newspaper together and discussed. The girls, who are my youngest at six-years-old, and not yet reading well, helped me to write out a grocery list and they read off the items as I wrote. We discovered a tape measure and went about measuring EVERYTHING. Spanky, the Chihuahua is approximately 16″ long from tip of tail to cute, little wet nose. :-) Tyler built with his K’nex, of course. Not a day goes by that he doesn’t. And, as always, we did some reading before bedtime.

Anyway, I guess it wasn’t a totally wasted day, but I do plan to fit in a bit of structured time tomorrow to do some reading, writing and spelling. I know I’ll feel better if I do.

We’re on the road.
