First meeting of the Midnight Peanut Butter Eaters Club.

Sunday, October 30th, 2005

Midnight peanut butter eaters.

The kids and I are jetlagged and our sleep patterns are all topsy turvy. We are sleeping when we should be awake and awake when we should be sleeping.

Last night the kids and I were all awake in the middle of the night. The house in which we are staying is small and the four of us are sleeping together in one small room. So it is middle of the night, we’re all awake and they are hungry and I can’t really fix them much. I’m not comfortable cooking in an Indian kitchen because everything is so different, plus I couldn’t do it without waking everyone else up and I don’t want to do that. Instead we pull out a jar of peanut butter I’ve tucked into our luggage. We sit in near darkness with only a flashlight or a bit of illumination and we have the first meeting of the “Midnight Peanut Butter Club”. J The kids think this is fun, of course. And once our tummies have been satisfied we read a book and try to stay as quiet as we can until morning comes.

We touchdown in Bangalore, India.

Saturday, October 29th, 2005

About 7:30 this morning we landed in Bangalore, India. My earlier concerns about getting through Bombay were unfounded. We did not need to collect luggage there and go through customs. Instead we simply had to change planes and continue on. It was in Bangalore, our last hop, where we were required to collect our bags and go through customs. It didn’t take us too long, then we walked outside the terminal and were met by my husband’s family.

The family had a vehicle rented which we loaded into and headed to Hindupur. Hindupur is a very small village in southern Andhra Pradesh state where my husband’s younger sister and her family live.

As we traveled from Bangalore to Hindupur it soon became obvious we were getting into rural India. It was great! We share the bumpy, pot-holed road with goats being herded to the field, farm trucks and tractors, vehicles being repaired including one having an engine pulled using the huge overhead tree (directly over the road) as a hoist. You name and it was there.

On our way. It’s a long flight to India.

We leave later today for our trip. The kids are excited. I’m excited too and ready to go. Finally after three weeks of feeling sick I am feeling better. And just in time.

We finished packing up just moments ago and with a few minutes in the day to spare I thought I’d blog a farewell to all. I will do my best to keep up with this while in India. India has come a long way in technology with little Internet cafes scattered all over the place. I think I should have no problems finding Internet connections.

Farewell everyone . . . until we meet again. :-)
